NinjaTrader History

NinjaTrader, LLC was formed in July of 2004 about one year after NinjaTrader version 1 was released to the public. Prior to public release, NinjaTrader was the personal trading application of NinjaTrader founder Raymond Deux. Raymond created NinjaTrader to maximize his ability to effectively trade the fast moving futures markets, something he found difficult with the electronic trading tools of the time. It quickly became apparent that many other traders shared Raymond’s vision for a logical trading application that could abstract the tedious task of order supervision and management when several hundred copies of NinjaTrader were downloaded the first week of its’ release.

In January of 2005 NinjaTrader, LLC acquired a key piece of technology with the acquisition of TradeMagic, developer of an advanced .NET trading framework. This technology provided the foundation for accelerated growth into trading system development and the automated trading space.

In November of 2005, NinjaTrader released version 5 of its industry leading advanced order and position platform. Version 5 included several major enhancements such as charting, custom indicator development via NinjaScript, expanded brokerage support, and forex trading making NinjaTrader a true multi-asset trading platform. These significant enhancements combined with distribution through a network of over 100 brokerages worldwide drove demand for the NinjaTrader application throughout 2006.

NinjaTrader Version 6, released in April 2007 delivered the retail trading industry its first free end to end trading platform with notable feature enhancements to challenge the industry status quo. These enhancements included full trading system development via NinjaScript with live deployment through an ever expanding list of supporting brokers. It also included major upgrades to charting including chart based trading and real-time multi-instrument scanning to name a few. NinjaTrader 6 marks NinjaTrader’s evolution from an advanced order entry platform to a full service multi-asset, multi-broker, trading platform applicable for both discretionary and automated system traders.
