Default Imported 5 minutes data not showing on 5 minutes chart!

Hello! I've imported some 5 minutes GBPJPY data, but they aren't showing on 5 min chart. instead, they are displayed on the 1 minute timeframe!? I've noticed that there is no timeframe selection during the import process. did I miss sth obvious? or is this really a system limitation?

>> they are displayed on the 1 minute timeframe
Correct, you only can import 1 minute time frame.

NT takes cares and builds 5 min series from 1 minute series.

alright, if I can only import 1 minute data, how do I test a strategy on 5 minute timeframe?

I've just run a backtest on ES0608, the test period I specified is from 2005.10.2 - 2008.5.10. the strategy I used produced 300+ trades with a positive outcome. and on the summary page, the start date is also 2005.10.2. however, the corresponding chart displayed only goes back to 2007.12.28.

now I'm not sure how far back the backtest really went. did it really go all the way back to 2005.10.2? or did it just start from 2007.12.28? if it indeed tested all the data since 2005.10.2, then why aren't they displayed also on the corresponding chart?

I'm new to Ninjatrader, I might be asking stupid and obvious questions, but this really is what's befuddling me right now. thanks for your answers and patience.

I see, that's nice. . though I don't have enough of 1 min series to test a strategy with. I'm currently demo trading with AMP futures. they don't have forex data. does Ninjatrader have a forex broker? I've noticed that I could get forex data if connected to the External Data Feed. but what's the source fo that data? is it statistically simulated data or real quotes?

- import 1 (!) minute historical data say starting 2005-12-01
- pull up new chart (File->New->Chart) on 1 minute series to see that data is there
- pull up new chart (File->New->Chart) on 5 minute series to see that data is there
- backtest 1 minute series back to 2005-12-01 (File->New->Strategy Analyzer) to understand how it works
- backtest 5 minute series back to 2005-12-01 (File->New->Strategy Analyzer) to understand how it works

Forex broker: see e.g. www.forex.com

I strongly recommend attending one or more of our free webinars to understand the basic concepts of NT (see link in my signature)

ok, so I have to manually import 1 minute data covering the entire test period for every instrument I'd like to run a backtest on, right? How I thought NJ could do that for me automatically...

Thanks again. I'm currently going through your online help guide. the few strategy reference samples I've had a look at seems to suggest great possibilities. will check the free webinar you've mentioned as well.

btw, how come I couldn't open up the pdf version of your version6 help guide? I've downloaded it multiple times, and each time it's reported to be corrupted and can't be opened.

Correct. Just import the historical data you want to use and you should be fine.

In regards to the online help guide, I am not sure why you are unable to get it but you can try clearing your browser cache before downloading. Alternatively, a Help Guide should already be installed with your NinjaTrader locally. You can use it by bringing up the Help menu in NinjaTrader.
