i know i've seen the option, but i can't recall where and can't find it in the Help material, but how do i define the start and end time of the trading day on my charts?
also, since IB does not support daily periods, i am planning to use 405 min periods for e-minis. Does this sound like the most straightforward way toset up a daily chart with IB? thanks in advance |

Right click in chart-->Properties menu. You will session end and begin time properties.
I don't see no reason why 405 minute chart would not work. Ray

Hi,
I tried to change the default "Session Begins" from 12.00AM to 12.00PM, and Session Ends from 11.59PM to 11.59AM, in Chart/Properties and no data shows up. When I change it back, all the data comes back. Changng around various combinations of begin and end times either tends to show a blank chart, or when it does show data on chart, it shows the volume data truncated - ie. time missing. I would like to have a new session commence in the quietest time of the 6E rather than just before midway through the busiest trading activity on the 6E, as it is set now. Then the Prior Day OHLC Indicator will work more effectively. thanks, Antraman 0 |

I think there may be an error in how NT regards time for the sessions.
If I set "Session Begins" to 08.00PM and "Session Ends" to 07.59PM, it will not display data, because even though 7.59PM is 11hours 59mins after 08.00PM previous day, because 7.59 as a number is lower in value than 8.00, NT thinks it must be earlier, and therefore fails to show any data. Default begins at 12.00AM and ends at 11.59PM, but because PM is after AM, NT is programmed to recognise a whole day in between, but that is because the unusual fact that midnight is 12.00AM but 1 minute before is 11.59PM. If you add 5 mins to the session begin and end time, so it is now eg. 12.05AM and 12.04AM, it will not display any data. If I am wrong about this, then could someone please show me how to set it up so session begins at midday, and finished 1 minute before midday next day. thanks, Antraman 00 |

NT does not support sessions that span across two days. If you want 24 hour session then set:
Start: 12:00 AM End: 11:59 PM

Thanks for reply Ray.
If I adjust the clock on my PC, will the "session begin at 12.00AM" daybreak lines be inserted at a different point in the market, for example where the yellow arrows are marked in the pic? I would like to have my "Session Begin" time at the quiet period of 6E (see image below), which is about 6hours after session begin time set on my charts. At the moment, 12.00AM falls almost in the middle of the busiest time. Your New York 8.30am Monday is my local time 10.30pm Monday. At what point in the 6E market is your Session Begin 12.00am daybreak lines positioned in the chart? Can you point me to a spot? thanks... Antraman 0 |

Yes that would work. Simply set your PC clock so that the actuall session start/end time is inside of the time zone your PC is set to. I am not sure what time zone that would be.
