I am having problems when drawing lines on my chart while using a log scale. Perhaps there is something that I am missing?
- The cross hair does not stay at the end of the line I am drawing making it awkward to draw the line - When I copy the line to create a parallel line then the copied version has a different slope - I do not seem to be able to extend the line beyond the top of the data. For instance in an upward sloping trend, I would like to project the line beyond the the rightmost point into the future How can I resolve these issues?

I am trying to use the line function again tonight within a log chart. I am trying to draw an upward sloping diagonal line. But NT7 draws a horizontal line.
The problem that I had earlier cant be replicated, but this new problem now exists. Hopefully this is clear enough input. |

Hi Tartan,
Can you please provide the instrument and period type (1min, 5min, tick chart, etc) you are using for the chart? Thank you.

Tartan,
Unfortunately I was unable to reproduce. Were you using equidistant charts? Non-equidistant charts? Minute charts or tick charts or maybe some other type of chart?

I am trying to draw trend lines on for the 6E March contract and am getting the same sort of problem. It's never fully consistent.
I am viewing a 60 minute OHLC chart and when I draw a trend line, then copy and paste it to create a parallel duplicate, then move the copied line to another place on the chart. When I do all of this, then the copied line changes slope as soon as I move it. On this chart, I am able to extend the line to the right of the data set - so this problem is not appearing. I really think you need to put some time into testing this issue thoroughly since it is such a basic but important task. |

Hi: Yes, I am using 7.0.0.6.
Here is a link to a screencast that outlines my issues. http://www.screentoaster.com/watch/s...9dRVpcWl5fVFVX Note that: - I created a line and then copied it to create a parallel line. When I move this copied line then it changes slope - The "tool" of the crosshair (either an X or a pencil depending upon the context) is not aligned with the middle of the cross hair - I can get the X/pencil to move to the top portion of the chart but cannot get the middle of the crosshair to move to the top portion of the chart.

I am still having problems with Log charts in NT 7.0.0.8
Below is a link to a video that shows: - Andrews Pitchfork on a log chart. The lines are not parallel but expand. - When I copy a line, the copied line is not parallel to the original line. - When using the fibonacci tool, the fib numbers do not change between linear and log charts. They should. http://www.screentoaster.com/watch/s...9aRVhfXVhaVlNQ |

Tartan,
Your video just shows the end results, but I still do not know how you got to those results. When I tried to reproduce my lines copy as parallel lines and I have no problem with the Andrew's Pitchfork. Please clarify. Thank you.

1)
When I copy and paste a ray on a linear chart, the lines are parallel. When I copy and paste a ray on a log chart the lines are not parallel. I would like to create parallel lines on log charts as well as on linear charts. Of course if I create a parallel line on a log chart it literally maps to a curve on a linear chart and vice versa. And that NT7 is approximating a straight line on a linear scale as a straight line on a logarithmic scale and vice versa. It is ok with me if global sharing of some objects are not well defined. When it is important I won't share them. But it would be helpful to be able to draw parallel lines on a log chart. 2) From the hints earlier in this thread I realized how to manually construct parallel lines. thks. If I select a ray, copy it, and do not deselect the ray, right clicking on the chart does not indicate that paste is available. Once I guessed to try ctrl-v I got a duplicated line to manipulate. With out a paste prompt in the user interface I was too dense to realize all I needed to do was press ctrl-v. |

josh:
try a logarithmic chart that has a wider range. Maybe a weekly chart over the last year of something that has at least doubled in value. The compression from the log chart will be more visually evident. |
