Default Public Service Announcement Barchart.com

Barchart.com currently has an issue when sending volume data to Ninja Trader. This will not be fixed until the next release version 7 of Ninja Trader.

Also, please be aware that if you try to cancel your account because of the bad data feed, Barchart.com will not credit your account for the unused portion of the service for that month. This is regardless of how close to the first of the month you call.

Happy Trading!

Thanks for that info. Could you please provide details like:
- which instruments?
- historical or realtime data?

This problem applies to all symbols and only for real time data. For real time data streams the volume data will be multiplied by a random factor and users will also randomly receive huge volume spikes that are not real. Real time daily volume is typically 10 to 20 times that of reality. This problem does not impact historical data requests.

Both NinjaTrader and Barchart.com are aware of the problem and a fix will be coming out in Ninja Trader 7.

Default hope that NT7 will be available very soon for all users

Hello Admin, Hope that the NT7 will be available to all free users fo NT very soon as i am a paying costumer of barchart for forex data feed and use tick volume from their forex data feed and i cant use it as the volume bars are really ugly and disproportionate and cant use them for trading decision.

Can you tell me when NT7 will be availabe for all users (free or not)? As paying for a provider that i cant use on NT 6.5 is frustrating.

Thanks a lot in advance

Hello shreem,

Thank you for your note.

The initial beta release for NinjaTrader partners occured over the weekend. The next phased beta release for a limited group of users will occur on 10/12. As of yet, there is no release date for the third phase of beta.

For more information about NinjaTrader 7 and for more information about becoming a beta tester, please see the following link: http://www.ninjatrader.com/webnew/NT7/NinjaTrader7.html

Default Barchart volume data still not reliable for NT7

I am using NT7, current Beta. As of today, December 28, volume data provided by Barchart are still not reliable. As an example, after the close I opened a 150 tick chart for the stock, SPY. This chart contains historical data only since it was not running during RTH.

One of the 150 tick bars, at 16:10:11 ET, shows a volume of 1,495,00 shares. However, the other bars, averaging around 50,000 shares per 150 tick bar, do not seem all that plausible either.

After the close, I opened a chart for the YM e-min and barchart filled it with historical volume data that appear to be correct. In the past I have had erroneous real time volume from barchart on the e-mini's. Sometimes a reload would correct the bad bars, and sometimes not. I have not been using the barchart data during RTH so cannot say if the real time errors for e-mini are still happening.

I had numerous email exchanges with Barchart about this. First they said one of the updates to NT6.5 would take care of this. Then they said NT7 would take care of it....... Would appreciate some information on status of corrective measures.

I opened a support ticket with barchart.com based on the report we got on that issue a couple of days. There is no feedback yet. Likely related to the holiday season. We'll keep you posted. Thanks

I was just getting ready to sign up for Barchart but this volume data problem is a stopper for me until it gets resolved. Does this problem currently exist for Barchart in both NT 6.5 and 7?

Default Barchart volume data not reliable in NT7

I have not checked lately whether the Barchart.com volume problems still occur in NT6.5.

However, these problems definitely DO occur in NT7. Updating my previous post, the bad bars are happening with the e-mini futures as well as with stocks.

Barchart's price datafeed and backfill perform well. Barchart would be a viable choice, were volume reporting to be corrected.

Hi all. I would like to know if the new Ninja Trader 7 is capable of deal with bid volume and ask volume in a separate way. It will be fantastic in order to develop some kind of indicators. Thanks in advance.

Hi fxspain,

Thank you for your reply.

NinjaTrader 6.5 can access bid/ask volume as well. Can you elaborate on what you are trying to accomplish with your indicators?

Hi Kyle. I was asking this regarding to the development of a "Better Volume" indicator for Ninja Trader by its original creator, Mr. Barry Taylor.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Default Better Volume does not use Bid/Ask Volume

I could be wrong but my impression was that the Better Volume Indicator is based on total volume per bar, not bid and ask volume. There are some versions of it posted in the forums. Look at post #41 on page 1 of the thread titled "Better Volume Beta",

NT6.5 and NT7 both can plot in real time indicators based on bid and ask volume. But the data get lost as soon as you change anything on the chart, and are not stored for historical refresh.

You can get around this limitation by using the GomCD indicators which allow you to plot and record the bid ask volume and the cumulative delta.

A simplified definition of Volume Delta is the difference between volume at the ask and volume at the bid of one bar. The sum of the deltas for a series of bars is the cumulative delta. This information can be much more revealing than the total volume. Without watching it, you are flying blind.

For the GomCD indicators you can do a search for "GomCD" and look in the threads titled "Tick Recording Indicator Framework" and "all GomRecorder Indicators". Many thanks are due to gomifromparis for these indicators.
