Regression Channel not working in non-price series panel

In v7 the regression channel is not drawn correctly in a non-price / price derivative series panel - e.g. over a ADX, GOMCD etc.. It plots at zero. All other drawing tools would appear to work OK.

Suggestion to improve regression channel

If you put on the regression channel on a chart, it gets stuck and the end of the chart where it was drawn last. So you cannot examine how it was repainting over the period.

It would be better to display the the regression channel for the last n bars shown on the chart, rather than the last n bars of the underlying DataSeries.

Below is a modified version that moves along with the chart, if you scroll back. It uses a displacement of 1 period, as I did not want to include the current price as a reference. Just to explain, why it displays a value slightly different.

Is there any reason that you did not implement this concept as the default indicator?

Because that is not necessarily what someone would expect to see. Just because they are scrolling a chart back does not necessarily mean they want to have the regression channel drawings change on them. You could simply be scrolling back the chart to see a low price or a trendline somewhere and examine a relationship to the current regression channel. It is not always that you are scrolling a bar to see an older regression channel value and doing it as such is actually more out of line with any of the other indicators we have where historical values are actually different than what is shown on the chart (e.g. Swing).

Obviously there could be other approaches as you have made and that is what is nice about having the ability to customize things. If you need a different implementation, you can make it however you need it.

Hi Josh,

thanks for your answer. I agree that NinjaTrader is extremely versatile and that it is easy to modify indicators. For the current regression channel: it moves out of sight quickly, when horizontally scrolling, so it won't disturb. I can always post the modified channel in the indicator section...
