    Vertical & Horizontal Lines

Have been using the rectangle tool to draw vertical lines of a specific length...when using just the line tool it is often hard to get it precisely vertical...and you have to fuss with the rectangle a bit to shrink it horizontally...

It would be good to somehow draw a true vertical line easily...and also draw a true horizontal line segment somehow...perhaps as a default special condition of existing draw tools...or have new tools for this...

    thanks...

    Hello,

    Thank you for the question.

There is a vertical line tool in the drawing tools, you can access it by either right clicking on the chart and selecting drawing tools and then vertical line. Also you can press F7 or find it in the drawing tools menu in the toolbar. Also there is a horizontal line tool in there as well. Either of these will draw "true" horizontal or vertical lines on the chart.

I am unsure what you mean by segment do you mean a rectangle?

I look forward to being of further assistance.

Am looking for a segment of a vertical line of a specific length....as in the screen shots...(drawn with the rectangle tool there)....
similarly a segment of a horizontal line...

The ray tool could work if the extension was chopped off and one could select a vertical option....
The extended line could work if extensions were chopped off and select a horizontal option....

        Hello,

        Thank you for the clarification.

Yes currently the only way to do a segmented vertical or horizontal line would be to use the line tool.

for vertical lines you can click a starting point and an end point, next select the line and right click and select properties and set the start and end time to the same time and then adjust your y values to suit the position.

It would be the same process for a horizontal line just the same y values and position your start and end time where you need to start and end.

I can also submit this for a feature request as a possible option for the line tool.

I look forward to being of further assistance.

You need something that can be done quickly over and over again...
no fussing with X & Y values etc. every time you draw...

            Hello,

            Thank you for the reply.

As I posted previously I have forwarded this as a feature request for future versions but currently this would be the way to do this using a line rather than using the vertical line or horizontal line specifically.

I look forward to being of further assistance.

You do not want to have to fuss with the line tool to get it precisely vertical or horizontal the way it works now....

                ....

Here is an idea...on the line draw tool...have an user option for the line to snap to either vertical or horizontal...so that if the line is drawn fairly close to vertical, it would auto snap to vertical....while with this same option selected ..... if drawn fairly close to horizontal it would snap to horizontal.....keep the regular line tool as is....but add this option to it....

                .......

A horizontal line segment would be a horizontal line with a specific start and end point, not a line that extends to infinity in both directions.

Some drawing programs handle this nicely by using the Shift or Ctrl key to snap to vertical or horizontal while using the line tool (e.g., F2). So, you click the starting point of the line and, if you hold the Shift key, depending on where you place your cursor, you will end up with either a horizontal or vertical line, with no possibility of drawing any other type of line.

Snapping to horizontal, simply by clicking <Shift> while drawing a line or a ray would be really great, especially as I was soo used to it from other Platforms...
