# of bars to look back

Hi,

Under Properties of the Market Analyzer window, there is a parameter to set "# of bars to look back".

If I add an Indicator to the MA, there is also the same "# of bars to look back" parameter under General.

What's the difference between the 2, and which one takes precedence?

Hi,

The MA properties is the general settings for your analyzer. The indicator properties are for that specific indicator.

The indicator parameters will override the general. This means if you have one specific indicator that needs more bars to calculate, you can set it in the indicator column itself, and then the rest of the indicators will use what you have set in the general properties.

To get an idea of how this works exactly, you can try setting the MA properties to 150 for example, then add an Indicator column and you'll see that indicator column will inherit the settings used in the general properties. You then have the option to increase/decrease this value for that specific column

Is there a way to set this "# of bars to look back" value from within NinjaScript?

I see that there is a "MaximumBarsLookBack" variable, but I'm unsure if this is really want I want.

Hello,

Thank you for the question.

This property is set before the indicator so this would not be accessible from the indicator its self.

You can set a default for this property but it would not be able to be set from script.
