    Interactive brokers connection problem

    Hi,
    I cannot connect IB TWS(version939.1) with Ninjatrader 7, it keep showing the status "Connecting-Interactive Broker" and meanwhile, it showed a message "Login failed: Timeout on waiting for TWS".

    I did followed connection guidance to set up both TWS and Ninjatrader correctly, so what should I do right now?

    Can you please download and install TWS 938 as per the IB connection guide below.



    We are currently investigating to upgrade to 940 or higher and we are working with Interactive Brokers on this.

    We will update you once there is additional information.

        IB Connection Problem

        I have a similar problem:
        Ninja Version 7.0.1000.22
        TWS Version 944.3c

        After setting up my Ninja and TWS with the latest downloads I try to connect, manage to login in TWS. Ninja status is still on 'connecting' even though tws is logged in. after 10 seconds tws crashes.
        Settings in Ninja / TWS are done according to your guide.

        I use another 3rd Party software that can connect to tws (same principle as ninja) and there it works.

        64Bit has the same problem.
        Turning off the firewall: same problem.

        Any idea how this can be solved?

          Hello Michael,

          Do you have 'Auto logon' enabled or disabled? Please go to Control Center-->Tools-->Account Connections, highlight the IB connection and click Change. Click Next twice. If disabled, please enable it and finish the connection. Subsequently check if you can connect.

          Please check if the TWS API settings are configured as per the screenshot in the IB connection guide.

            Thank you for your reply. I have set the connect at starup setting to true, but it doesnt solve the issue. i have verified that all settings are according to the documentation. The effect is the same.
            Would you have any othe suggestion?

              Thank you for your note.
              What kind of operating system do you have?
              Could it be you are using a white labeled version of TWS? Meaning you have your account with a different broker than IB. If so, please use the workaround below.

              Open TWS. In the menu bar click <Configure> and proceed as outlined below.

              Configuration--> Display--> Settings
              On the right panel in "Titlebar text" there is a edit box. Enter following into it:
              "Interactive Brokers Trader Workstation" (without quotes)
              Then navigate to Configuration--> Display--> Style
              Check the setting: Use system title bar (Change requires a restart).

                Hello Michael,

                Please note that I am referring to the 'Auto logon' setting. The 'connect on startup' setting is present in the window if you click Next just once. It is not checked in the screenshot of the IB connection guide. Can you please enable this setting and check if you can connect.

                Could it be you are using a white labeled version of TWS? Meaning you do not have your trading account with Interactive Brokers, but a different broker.

                    Interactive Brokers Connectivity Issue

                    I am experiencing same issue after upgrading to the TWS 944.3C. Ninja cannot connect successfully to TWS. My op syst is Win 7 Pro 64. I have all settings according to the video and screen shots for both IB TWS & Ninja Trader. Since I am a FX trader I also selected the half pip setting in Ninja according to your video. Any suggestions for fix? Thank you.

                        Thank you for your reply Cal. Yes I had checked that also. Java says software has already been installed. However, I do have the option to reinstall it? Ninja and TWS were working fine before upgrading on May 1.

                            Following up from our remote session.

                            Uninstalling TWS and reinstall from the download link (Download 944.3).
                            When starting TWS for the first time, log in with your credentials and ensure to start in Classic TWS.
                            Once that is loaded up, connect from NinjaTrader side to ensure connection.

                            You will now be able to close down both applications and then start NinjaTrader and connect to IB.

                            Additionally, ensure that you have followed all the steps outlined from the connection guide below before connecting from NinjaTrader-

                              Ninjatrader connecting issues with TWS 944.3

                              I've followed the guide at this site and still cannot connect to TWS.


                              I don't get an error message, NTopens up TWS and in NT I see in the status bar "Connecting - InteractiveBrokers" then after a couple of minutes TWS closes and then relaunches, it constantly continues in this cycle. Every time NT opens TWS it auto-populates my user / pw but nothing happens.
