To streamline the process I would add stop, stop limit and limit buttons in addition to the existing buy market, buy bid etc... buttons. These buttons would then act in a pushbutton manner. When you click on it, it stays depressed (and perhaps change the button face color for another visual cue), and the next click on the chart sends that type of order (and then resets the button). To indicate that that you are in this direct order placement mode you would change the cursor to a horizontal line and display the price.

Streamlined chart trader order entry
I find it sometimes annoying when placing stops or limits on the chart via the right click context menu. That context menu contains items mostly pertaining to chart setup, and additionally you have to select the proper order.
