I've been absolutely astounded to see how much my Windows XP Time is "off" from the real time. I've tried several internet time servers, and all of them have been bad for the most part.
The latest one I'm using is clock.via.net.....but it's off by several seconds.
Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately I am unable to assist you in this matter because I have limited experience with PC clock times. Only thing I can recommend is to search google.

Thanks but I'm looking for ONLY a server....not software. The above would be a good solution for Windows 2000.

Check out AtomicClockSync and http://www.worldtimeserver.com/ . It has a list of time servers that you can use. The NIST also has several tools: http://tf.nist.gov/service/its.htm
FWIW, I'm using the time server at 132.163.4.102, but you'll have to find one closest to you.

Sorry, worldtimeserver seems to be promoting their OWN time sync software....I'm looking for something that works with the built-in time sync called W32TIME of Windows/XP. You just enter an IP address in the internet time tab of the date-and-time Properties, and there you go.
It works well.. and is configurable for the update interval.
The major problem is finding any good NTP SERVERS.
Also, I've tried many of the tf.nist.gov servers and they stink....way-off.

Why are you set on W32TIME instead of considering AtomicClockSync or Neutron?

I've had good performance from north-america.pool.ntp.org
But only after changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\w32time\TimeProviders\NtpClient\SpecialPollInte rval
to 3600 (decimal).
I think the default is 7 days, changing to 3600 makes it poll every hour.

Good question....and with the dearth of documentation on the W32TIME api, I should know better. I'll give AtomicClockSync a try then.

Been there, done that....had my updates set to 3600 for over a year now....but the frequency of updates is IRRELEVANT if the server time acquired is wrong.
Just tried a US-based server from ameria.pool.ntp.org. Did an "Update Now" on the Internet Time tab, and checked my updated time against google and time.gov and was "off" by 1 second. Did another "Update Now" and was off by 2 seconds !
CONCLUSION:
SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH WINDOWS XP INTERNET TIME SYNC FUNCTION.

Use what most traders use D4 from http://www.thinkman.com/dimension4/download.htm
It has a lot of options and is free. Disable the XP time service from loading so it does not interfere. D4 service uses only 584k of memory which is less than XP's own service. Set it to update time just before markets open. Choose any open time server from the list in the program.

Thanks. Strangely, this NTP server is working perfectly the past 2 days:
1.us.pool.ntp.org
