some chart default template settings not saving on exit

when i close NT5 and restart, there are some settings in my saved default template that are not saving properly.

i have three panes. The top pane is the mainchart, then two panes below it with different indicators in each. I scrunch down (© technical term... ;-) the bottom two panes to their minimum height, maximizing the space available for the top pane. But when i close down and restart, the bottom two panes are resized to a larger height, and i have to manually scrunch them down again. It may seem like a trivial task, but i have a lot of charts and this is getting tedious.

i have saved the template as my 'default' several times, so i don't think i screwed that part up. Any ideas on what i can do?
