Historical data download?

I've just downloaded NinjaTrader today, so I'm a newbie. So far, it looks killer. I never heard of it until today, wish I had heard of it earlier.

But, since I just got it today, I obviously don't have historical data. I see mention of vendors that might sell it. And I could do that if no other choice. But, I was only looking for about the past 3 months of Gain Forex data. Given that there are other users of the product with it running, which has the storage feature built in, well, it just seems like this historical data would be readily available. Thanks for any information.

When you create a GAIN connection (Tools > Account Connections) there is an option in the set up wizard for Historical Data. Select the option "Use NinjaTrader Servers". This will give you about 1 year of historical intraday and tick level FX data. Daily not supported at this time.

Thanks for the fast response. Sorry for my ignorance, but what would it mean to include intraday but not daily?

Ah, sorry for the dumb question.

I have decided to move to MBT, is there equivalent functionality for that? If not, the Gain data would probably be sufficient for what I need for the moment.

I will definitely be buying NinjaTrader with MBT and IB support.

MBT does not offer historical data...I know they are working on it though.

Hi,

I have a live gain connection and have selected "use ninjatrader servers" but I can't seem to get any historical forex data except the data I've recorded.

Is there something else to set up or select?

Please ensure that the charts you are trying to open are for intra day data and not daily.

Thanks for the quick reply. I found that simply closing and opening a chart for a currency pair did not work. Going to tools, historical data, reload did the trick.
