View Full Version : Suggestions to Decrease Processing Load

I am using Market Analyzer with a customized list of NASDQ stocks but notice that at startup I get a "Data Loading" message for symbols not in this list (My MA Screen is open)---is there a way to eliminate this updating (it iseems to be slowing down NT's performance)

I also want to reduce the load on my processor as much as I can...

Any suggestions on what to do to eliminate data updating or processing for symbols I am not interested in or other ideas to improve performance given I am using MA?

NT only loads data for series currently managed. Since NT has an internal data cache it even might load data which you e.g. don't have on the MA at this time. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about.

Thanks for the rapid response. I assume that the potential action you are discussing would be for instruments in my instrument lists. If I were to delete all instruments in the master list of instruments that were not also on my MA would this eliminate the behavior you are mentioning?

No, the instrument list is irrelevant. NT only manages/reloads data series you have on MA/chart/strategy etc.

I also have this problem where NT appears to be spending time and resources loading data for instruments I don't use. I have noticed it loading Dec07 instruments (which of course have all expired)

dierk, why is this?

Perhaps you have those instruments open somewhere. Could it be on your Control Center if not on your MA/chart/strategy analyzer?

Josh,

Happy New Year BTW, I haven't spoken to you this year yet. Hope all is well.

What do you mean "(maybe) be on your Control Center if not on your MA/chart/strategy analyzer?"?

Do you mean in the Instrument List(s) within Instrument Manager? I am not sure where specifically you might have in mind.

I suspect that if the instruments are in any lists (such as "Default") they are loading and processing data in the background, even if not currently "active" on any chart, MA, or Strategy.

Josh, I can't find these Dec07 symbols in any of my instrument lists - where else could they be lurking?

I was originally thinking in the Orders tab of the Control Center. Where you have the basic order submission banner and the bid/ask ticker.

No not there either, that is linked to the intrument lists again and I have checked all those...

Sorry nicko9. I am out of ideas. How is it that you deduce you are loading data for Dec07 contracts? Could you share with us the log message or whatever you are seeing?

the window hat opens and says loading, flashes the instrument name as it deals with it - I see it there

Can you tell me exactly what instrument/time frame/data provider you are using?

I use various time frames; some tick bars, minute bars and daily from esignal. I have around 80 instruments in various market analyzer windows.

Sorry I am out of ideas. It is impossible for NT to request data unless it is somewhere. You may have referenced it in a strategy or something.

Josh,

I think the spurious symbols (Dec07) were saved under an old workspace. For some odd reason when I started NT today it opened in an old workspace format - and there were all the old symbols!

I re-started NT and selected my current workspace and deleted all the others (workspaces) that have been saved previously. This, I think has fixed it.

I have found that the workspaces behave quite strangely - sometimes I seem to get two opened concurrently and other weird stuff seems to occur with them.

anyway I'll keep an eye on data loading to see wether the old symbols really have gone.

Josh, I discovered where the zombie symbols are coming friom; they were stored in old workspaces I had saved. I have deleted all the old workspaces (except for current) and the problem has gone away.

another question: I leave my market analyzers running overnight -but they stop collecting data at 24:00 my time ( 11:00 am US ET) when markets are in full swing. I assume this is something to do with session times?

I run various instruments trading both asia, Eurpope and US sessions in a single annalyzer. My indicators calculate on bar close. How can I work around this?

Can I make asuggestion that we can set session times at the instrument level (rather than analyzer window level)

thanks

For clarification -

- Do you mean that the real-time data stops coming in so the MA columns/cells no longer update?
- What are your exact MA session start/end times?

Thanks

Yes, when I open a chart the last bar (on a 60 minute chart) is stamped at 00:00 although the current time is 09:00 and the markets are open and tarading. I close and reconnect to esignal and hit F5 in the M A's (or refresh the chart) and I then get the missing data (9 hours in this example). This process also normally results in NT crashing so normally includes a re-start of NT as well.

Hi nicko9 !

Can you please send me your log and traces, and your workspace ? Please use the 'Mail to Support' function in Help. Make sure you checked 'Workspace files' and 'Logs and Traces' and you add my e-mail adress (christian AT ninjatrader DOT com) into the 'To' field.

Please before sending your files, setup your workspace as you used to do, before the problem occurs.

> 'I leave my market analyzers running overnight'
What are you doing exacly (i don't want to oversee anything) ? (Please try to answer, even some questions may seem trivial).
- do you have your PC running ?
- you have NT running ?
- are you connected ?
- you have chart & MA open ?
- do you have default session settings 12:00 AM - 12:00 AM ? (are you sure the time is within the session settings ?)
- you have a chart open, and it does also 'freeze', right ?
- you connect to eSignal ?

Kind regards,
Christian

Hi nicko9 !

That's right. Question was for the case, that you have not default settings.

Thanks,
Christian
