I posted this indicator a while back, but it may be easier to find this through its own thread.

I've given both the NT6.5 and the NT7.0 indicators below.

Hi sbgtrading,

I installed this indicator and re-set the dates but I do not see the lines. Where is the first thread maybe I can find some answers there.
thanks,
David

Hi David,

Well, first of all, lets make sure there isn't an error when you apply the indicator. To check for errors, load the indicator first, then look at the "Log" tab on the Control Center panel. Please let me know if you see any error message there relating to the Fib indicator.

Secondly, perhaps your default Fib Retracement tool colors are matching your background, thereby making any fib retracement look invisible. To change your default colors (or at least check them to make sure they're visible against your current backdrop), draw a fib retracement tool by hitting "F8". Draw the fib tool and see if the colors are good or need changing. Then, try to load the FibRetracementsOnSession indicator again.

Let me know if either of these two suggestions help.

Ben

This question may be beyond the scope of just this indicator but here is my problem: since upgrading to NT6.5.5 (globex migration) the indicator reverts to "default" values whenever anything on the chart changes. ie- fib retracements switch to the mousy mauve and teal colors and thin lines.I have spent hours and hours setting up my fib retracements the way I like them but even though I have saved my preferences as "default" and set up templates the retracements are getting their instructions from a mysterious proto template. Is there a way in Ninja to once and for all for all time to set up my fib retracements so they dont change EVER even with new templates or workspaces? This has really been an ongoing problem since the beginning but I thought it was finally cleared up...sigh...
Sorry to be rant-y but I would appreciate any help.

Hi Taters !

First please let's make sure we are on the same boat:

Please
- open default workspace
- open a chart
- right mouse on chart -> drawing tools -> line
- draw line on chart
- select line, right click -> line properties
- change color to yellow, width = 5, style = dashdot
- press apply, 'set default', and ok
- in ControlCenter -> file -> workspaces -> new workspace
- open chart
- draw line
--> is the line drawn with the settings you set before ? (yellow, 5, dashdot)

If not, please:
- describe which action you take, that the properties of the drawn line changes (adding other drawing tool ? pressing F5 ? scrolling). You pointed out: 'whenever anything on the chart changes', can you be a bit more concrete ?
- In ControlCenter please choose help -> mail to support. In the 'to' field, add christian AT ninjatrader DOT com. make sure you check 1) log and trace files 2) workspace files and 3) template files.

Many thanks,
Christian

upgrading to 6.5.0.6 seems to have solved the issue.

I'm posting a new version of this indicator. It lets you define a start date for the session and a length of session (in hours). If you want an infinitely long session, you can enter a "0" length.

Enjoy!

The previous is one of the very best indicators I've ever used.
Awesome of you to share it!

You are most welcome...and I hope you take oodles of money out of the market by its use (just make sure I'm not the guy on the other end of the trade!)

Hi Ben,

I applied your version 2 to my chart but it will not extend all the way to the right of the chart after the first hour trading. Any suggestions?

thanks,
David

My suggestion is to change the setting on your default Fib tool to "Extend right". You can change this default by double clicking on any existing Fib Retracement tool, then, at the bottom of the popup dialog box is "Extend right" checkbox. Click it and then hit the "Set Default" button.

As has happened before my Fib on session indicator has reverted to settings that seem to be the default NT settings instead of my drawing preferences.
Where does this indicator get its drawing parameters from if not your saved drawing preferences? I would like to edit that "master" preference file so this indicator doesn't revert at times (usually after a crash) to the illegible NT colors.
Even manually setting the fib indicator colors reverts at the next candle to the strange colors now.
I would like this:
1850

...but am getting this:
1849

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Taters

What NT version are you using?

In 6.5, if I create a chart and change default settings of a fib object, next time I draw it it will use these changes settings.

Is this not the behaviour you see?

After further thought...

If you do not save the Default workspace on shut down (in 6.5) then the settings will not be persisted.

Thanks NinjaTrader_Ray for getting involved in a custom indicator issue.
Ninja crashed the other day and after multiple restarts I restart I realized it was hanging trying to open a certain chart. I got an XML editor and looked inside the workspace I was using and deleted the corrupted chart.I then saved the workspace with a new name and removed the corrupted workspace from the ninja workspaces folder. When I started NT again it opened with no charts (as expected since the last-used workspace was no longer there) but I opened the fixed & renamed workspace fine, which was an exact copy of the old one minus the offending chart. (Relief!)
BUT my main indicator, the topic of this thread, had changed its draw characteristics to what I call Ninja default. If I draw a fib manually it is as specified by my saved preferences.Fine. But the indicator which automatically draws the fib on high/low of the current session does not use these now. What has changed and where is the indicator finding its draw parameters? As far as I know it should take these from the "Default Workspace" but as the attached pic of the XML code shows the values in the default workspace are the ones I want. As far as i can see the indicator code has no specs for drawing colors other than the high and low and should be calling these externally.
I am running the latest version 6.5.0.9 and always save "Yes to All" saving workspaces when exiting NT. If I create a new chart it is the same circumstance between drawing/ autodrawing. And as I mentioned before double-clicking the auto-fib and changing the parameters to my liking lasts exactly one candle before it reverts to the "Ninja Default".
I know there is an explanation, I just can't figure out what it is!
I do have the old 6.0 NT folder in my computer's documents folder but doubt this has an impact... Hopefully the pics will clarify my issue.
Help!
-Taters

XML of Default workspace shows correct (desired) parameters (assuming this is the right place to look!):

1851

Yet manual (left) and auto (right) are different.

1853

For clarification -

You mean:
- NT6.5
- open chart
- draw fib. Retracement on chart
- properties, modify settings, apply and set to default
- create indicator which draws Fib. Retracement
- throw on chart
- from indicator drawn fib retracement hasn’t the defaults user sets ?
just tried this, works here. Or does he mean something different ?

Hi i just came across this indicator...and it doesn't seem to work for me...any help would be appreciated. I drew a sample fib on my chart just to see if it works properly and it does, but when i uploaded the Fib retracements on session it doesn't plot. I went into my Log file also to see if any errors but none...see attachment.

Hello,

I am sorry this is a custom indicator and I do not know what the issue is. You will need to debug it.
