Strategy option grayed out on chart

Why can't I apply a strategy to my chart? it is grayed out. i am connected to a broker, it's live and in real time (IB) I can apply strategies to the strategy tab in the Control Center, but not to a chart. I couldn't find any help on this in the ninjatrader help.

Sorry everyone! - i figured it out...duh...can't do strategies while chart trader is active
thats too bad because I like to set strategies to draw entry points on the chart but make the entries and exits manually. Too bad NT can't do this :-(

I'm curious why I have to be connected to a data feed to run a strategy. Why can't I apply it to a chart that just has historical data?

anachronist, for that sort of backtesting only, please use the Strategy Analyzer - activating / enabling strategies for live / simulated trading from the Chart or Strategies tab requires you to have access to live data then.

One known workaround would be connecting to the External Data Feed, this would let you activate them as well.
