I switched over to version 5 from version 4, today, and everything is much slower. It takes 8 seconds for a Basic Entry Window to appear. All of the list boxes are slow in appearing. As are the pop-up windows (strategy managment). There is no snap/pop in version 5 like there is in version 4. In version 4 a Basic Entry Window appears in under 1 second. I am not running any charts.

I am running version 5.0.1000.3. I am running with an Intel P4 2.8 GHz with 512 MB RAM.

Any ideas on how to get version 5 to run faster?

Are you running any other applications on your PC? Sounds like memory problems. NT5 responsivenss should be immediate.

I had 2 instances of Excel, a Word document and TWS running at the time.

The Basic Window instance that took 8 seconds to open was the 7th instance of a Basic Window to be started. Even the 1st instance of a Basic Window took almost 3 seconds to open.

Opening 10 instances of Basic Window using version 4 was never a problem. They always poped right up on the screen.

Sounds like memory limitations. NT5 takes more memory than V4. NT5 takes anywhere from 40 MB+ depending on how many windows you have open. The more windows, the more memory. When you run into memory limitations, your computer uses virtual memory. This means a piece of your hard drive is allocated as a RAM subsitute. When virtual memory is used, serious computer sluggishness will occur.

I would consider using at least 1GB RAM for trading. That's what most trading resources recommend and what I personally use.

I havent run into v5 being sluggish but have found that as the day wears on, when you restore a super-dom from being minimized, they pop back up slower. I have v5 open from about 8am to around 4pm every day

Using 1 gig ram as well.

Cody,

What you experienced is related to windows memory management. As you don't use "parts of an app" for a while (e.g. DOME minimized), windows will swap it to disk and reload as you maximize.

Hope this helps

Whatever the problem was, in latest v5 it has gone away. Thanks!
