I set up an external data feed using TS as described in the docs and that is working. But when I try to connect to IB for trading I get a message that says "You cannot connect while having an open "External Data Feed ...". So what is the point of the external data feed if I can't trade? Is there another way to do this?

No there is not. You can not connect to TS and receive its datafeed and trade through IB at the same time.

Can you be more specific. Is this an IB issue or an NT issue? According to your docs:

NinjaTrader supports multiple simultaneous connections to different connectivity providers and in some cases, to the same connectivity provider allowing you to:

<LI class=rvps1>Connect to and trade through multiple brokers simultaneously
Connect to your broker and your data feed provider simultaneously

Hi glenng:

Thank you for posting, the following statement is true:

Connect to and trade through multiple brokers simultaneously
Connect to your broker and your data feed provider simultaneously

However, the limitation in your setup is using the Tradestation datafeed. Unfortunately, the TS datafeed can only be used as a stand alone datafeed for simulated trading.

You cannot connect to both TS and IB at the same time. NinjaTrader does support a simultaneous connection to IB with the following datafeeds:

eSignal
DTNiQ
Open Tick

Best regards,

Will a simultaneous connection work if the TS datafeed is on one machine and the IB datafeed is on a separate computer? I would
be in simulated mode in both computers. Thanks.

Hi Joeroma:

Thank you for your post.

Your understanding is correct.

You can run TS on pc #1 and connect to NinjaTrader on pc #1.

You can then run a second setup and connect to IB on pc #2 with your NinjaTrader version on pc #2.

Both of these pc's can be running at the same time using the free version license key.

Happy trading and best wishes for a succesful 2009!
