Hello,

I've been using thinkorswim, and their SMI seems to be much different than any other. I'm switching over to NT, and would like to configure your SMI so that it's similar, if possible. The problem is that that tos just gives values for %d and %k, which are 3 and 5 respectively, while NT gives 4 different values that don't seem to correlate. The two indicators are completely different. Is there some way that the NT SMI can be configured to more closely approximate that of tos?

Thank You

Hi,

Thank you for that indicator. I was able to import and then review, but without the ability to compare I am unable to offer any specific recommendations. Perhaps other users who have Think or Swim can contribute.

It may also be possible to save the chart image from Think or Swim and attach in that manner as well.

I tried saving it in tos but all they have is a print option, unfortunately, no screen shots.

The best descriptive comparison I give is that the NT SMI is almost identical to MACD, while the tos is completely different, giving good signals for short term OB and OS. The values are different also, with tos just giving the %d and k, like most stochastic indicators, while NT has EMA and range values. I don't understand indicators well but I was hoping someone could translate the tos values over to the NT to make the two indicators comparable.

Hello,

I suggest posting the TOS code if that is possible/legal, adding screen shots of what you are talking about and requesting assitance from a volunteer or paid programmer like the ones on this list:

Here is the code from tos:

[edit]

I noticed that the SMI on QuoteTracker is the same as yours, but both of them are too similar to a regular MACD to be very useful.

Here is a link to another thread here that supposedly contains a file similar to the tos SMI, but I think the file may be gone. I wasn't able to use it.

Any help with this is appreciated.

One even I can handle. Here, try this on for size. It seems to plot approximately like the posted TOS chart pic shows. Dan

I'm assuming the SMI plots as expected?

Yes, it looks just like the SMI in tos. Thanks again :)

I have just downloaded the Version 7. I've looked through the available indicators but did not find the SMI there. I'm assuming this one won't work. Am I also correct in assuming that there is not currently one available for V7 at this time?

Hello,

PLease see post number 10 to download and them inside NinjaTrader goto Control Center->File->Utilities->Import NinjaScipt to import this indicator into NinjaTrader. Import the full .zip file no need to extract it.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I tried the download for SMI but it didn't load after following the instructions. Any other ideas. I'm on Ninja 7.0.1

liam33, welcome to our forums, which zip did you download? Do you see any error being reported as you try to install the file via File > Utilities > Import NinjaScript?

I downloaded the one from eDanny at 12:03-22-2010, 12:25 AM

Just went back in to try again and get the message

Says that I have custom NinjaSCript files on my PC that have programming errors. These errors must be rsolved before I can import a NS Archive File.

This is what it said whenI tried to install this the first time. Can't remember exactly what it said but it went further in the process.

This the first time I have tried to import a file......Just started using the product

hi bertrand,

I'm unsuccesfully trying to add to the SMI code i downloaded on this forum a condition that will make
the SMI value in market analyser turn green if SMI < 0 and SMI > SMI of one bar ago.

Can you help me or direct me to someone who can help me.

bigdec, welcome to our forums - to create an alert for this study in the MA would need custom coding or for example a wizard strategy that would monitor for this condition.

To get started down this direction, please either check into our coding tutorials here -

For the wizard interface, please see this section :
