Merge data inputs

Hi, I am trying to merge data from previous contracts and I want to know if I am putting in the dates correctly before I do it.

Would either of the following two inputs work or only one is correct??

ES 03-10 into ES 06-10
From 12/10/2009 to 3/10/2010

ES 06-10 into ES 09-10
From 12/10/2009 to 6/9/2010

OR

ES 03-10 into ES 09-10
From 12/10/2009 to 3/10/2010

ES 06-10 into ES 09-10
From 3/11/2010 to 6/9/2010

Hi turbo516,

Thank you for your post, and welcome to the forum.

You will want to merge using the method of the first sample because merging data overwrites what is presently in the database. So prior to merging into the 09-10 contract you will want to make the previous contract include the 03-10 contract.

That way you can then merge the entire data range into 09-10.

Let's say if I want 2 years of data within the front month contract, that means I need to merge it from one contract to another?

What if I merge 03-10 and 06-10 into 09-10 and then later on i want the 2009 data, do I need to delete all the data and merge it again or can I just merge the 2009 data into the 09-10 which already has the 03-10 and 06-10 data.

When merging so long as you choose dates that do not overwrite existing data then it will be possible to import data into the current front month from any month.

This makes a little trickier though, but so long as the dates are correct it will work, as well, but we typically recommend merging in the first method of your original post, even though the second would work as well.
