append an ATM strategy to an open position?

Somtimes I opened a position without an ATM strategy (only buy or sell). Is it possible append to this open position an ATM strategy (or a exit-strategx, e.g. trail...) ?

When you say append, do you mean change the paramters of the strategy such as tweaking the trail stop parameters or do you mean scaling in or out of a position?
