Just for curious, Im having troubles to unzip exported indicators and/or strategies on Ninja 7 ; is it using some modified zip format ? ...and if so, something can be done to be able to open those zip files from windows ?

Hello Pmaglio,
Thank you for your post.
There shouldn't be any special zip structure. You should be able to open with any compression software or even the standard windows file manager.
Let us know the error messages you're getting and share one of the files you're having trouble opening. We can help isolate whether the issue is with the files or with your system.

I can see the contents of the zip file, but cant extract the .cs file located inside the Indicator folder. This happens with any ninja 7.0 zip file. Last file I tried was VWAPNT7.zip on this website just to check if the trouble was with my own generated files.
Tried on 2 different PC's with Windows XP service Pack 3 spanish

I've not heard of this issue. Maybe try a separate compression program like winrar or winzip.
I'll see if I can find an XP machine to test the NT7 zip files.

pmaglio,
Can you successfully import this file using File > Utilities > Import NinjaScript?

Yes, thats the strange part, My Ninja 7 can import these zip's without any trouble.
But the .cs file inside the "Indicator" folder into the zip can't be extracted with windows or winrar. This happens also with 2 friends who tried to open a zip file I sent to them.
Check this file ( it is just a copy of EMA exported )

pmaglio,
If it imports then it is working as expected. Unfortunately we are unable to support why you can't open the zip in Windows. If you want access to the .cs file you can access it after you have used NT to import in the Documents\NinjaTrader 7\bin\Custom\Indicator or \Strategy folder.

Thanks Josh,
Btw, Is this behavior by design or something is wrong on my PC's ?

pmaglio,
It is not by design. Unfortunately I do not know why you are unable to extract zip files on your machine.

Note to Ninja support folks: I reported this issue in April via email. Please see email thread 308188.
Conclusions seem to be 1) There are customers who were not having problems with .ZIP files in 6.5 who are having an issue with 7; 2) Ninja did make a change in this area; and 3) so far Ninja is stuck on "we can't reproduce it so it's not our problem."
But if I did nothing but upgrade from 6.5 to 7 and now something doesn't work, I kinda sorta think Ninja IS part of the problem....

I have the same problem with NT7. I am using WindowsXP. I can't unpack NT7 zip files (get empty directories as an result). But I can import with NT7 correctly. Never have seen such issue with NT6.5.
Conclusion: In NT7 they use their own zip routines which are not compatible with WindowsXP anymore.

Guys,
Let me try to clarify:
- NT 6.5 had been using an outdated version of a 3rd party component called SharpZipLib. This version had some deficiencies as it e.g. failed to zip a large number of files
- NT 7 now incorporates the latest version of that SW which overcomes these issues. Unfortunately on Windows XP you would experience what you experienced. However there really is not issue as (a) NT properly works using that version and (b) you can work around by using NT to build or unzip these archives.
Thanks

yahoo is marking any ninjascript exported with NT7 as virus. no such issues with NT6.5 though.

We are neither the vendor nor the developer of YAHOO software. Please contact YAHOO to get this issue resolved. Thanks

thanks Dierk for the prompt reply.
by yahoo i am not implying any special software. just the standard mail service of yahoo.
seems the issue has already been raised. http://www.ninjatrader.com/support/forum/showthread.php?t=28129&highlight=yahoo+virus
and seems its more sort of a ziplib issue.
thanks again for your time.

I believe this can be resolved by changing the zip ending to a custom one, where the recipient then would just rename to zip again to be able to access your files. Best is to check with Yahoo support directly to address it.

Folks:
Windows XP will not correctly unzip an NT7 .zip file. This happens on any Windows XP.
Several other UNZIP programs also fail with a variety of errors. I fully understand that I can unpack and look at the source code using File/Utilities/Import.
However, as a Certified NT Consultant, I get lots of code samples from people and I do not wish to add their received indicators into my indicator name space just to take the first look look at the code.
So my question is
"What third party UNZIP program will properly UNZIP an NT7 .zip file"
I am not trying to manipulate NinjaScipt outside of NT.
But I do want to inspect it outside of NT to check for incipient compile issues and conflicts..
(Note: this unzip failure does not happen with NT 6.5.)

Hi roland_NT,
I did not test but typically have good results using Winrar.
http://www.win-rar.com/website/index.php?id=start&L=0
Please let us know if you're unable to open an NT7 zip on Win xp using Winrar.

NO, winrar cant unzip ninja zip files.
And it is very disturbing that MOST emails ( yahoo and MSN ) are reporting and deleting ninja zip files as trojans....

Ryan:
Thanks for the fast response.
I just download winRAR 400.exe form the site link you provided.
It does view and extract the latest NT7 zip indicator file.
An earlier version of WinRAR (3.45) that I had did not.
It'a a pity that the incompatibility with Windows XP occurred.
If anybody knows of a patch to XP is available I'd be delighted to hear about it.
Does anybody know if Windiws 7 has a similar issue?
Thanks again for the quick support.

Thanks for the update, Roland. Glad to hear winrar works for you.
pmaglio, we're unfortunately not able to reproduce the issue with Winrar + XP. It works OK in our tests here.
You can change the file extension from .zip to something else or without an extension so that mail programs will not flag as malicious.
