View Full Version : Downloading Symbol from Yahoo

I attempted to add the symbol GS-PA but ran into the following trouble.
I created the instrument GSPA, since no dashes allowed in the symbol name, and I entered GS-PA into the yahoo symbol map. When I load the chart it says "Error on loading chart data for 'GSPA Default': Failed to retrieve data from YAHOO".
I was able to get the same process to work for BT-A.L using BTAL as the symbol name.
Do you know what the problem might be?

Hello tony900hwk,
Thank you for your post.
I have tested this on my end and it appears that Yahoo does not provide historical data for this instrument.
Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

When I load a chart with symbol JEDM, it says "Error on loading chart data for 'JEDM Default': Failed to retrieve data from YAHOO".
I checked on yahoo and the symbol is listed...but it is a pinkSheet JEDM.PK.
how can i look at the chart?
p.s.- yahoo has a real-time data feed NOW- payService

I have tested JEDM.PK on my end and unfortunately it does not appear that this instrument is supported by the Yahoo API used with the NinjaTrader connection.

Hi,
This is Vince responding on behalf of Chris.
That is correct, this is not possible with Yahoo.
Perhaps that you can chart them with a different provider.

Can you recommend a data source that can accomodate pink sheet and otc stocks?

Unfortunately I am sure exactly which provider has the best assortment of pink sheet and otc stocks. I have provided a link below to a list of our supported brokers and data providers. I suggest contacting them directly to verify which one may be best for what you are looking for.

mystiq, unfortunately yes, as we would only support the Yahoo connection for end of day data.

ok. there are two types of yahoo data. yahoo free end of day data, which i do not use, and yahoo pay real-time data, which i use.
i am able to chart ALL stocks with yahoo real time data, unless it is .pk, pink sheets.
please verify: i am told yes to .ob stocks and no to .pk stocks. which is true?
or no to both .pk and .ob stocks? :(Thx

Hello mystiq,
Unfortunately we only support the Yahoo Free End Of Day data feed.
http://www.ninjatrader.com/webnew/support_Yahoo.htm
I tested an otc stock (AAAE.OB) and I received a last price in the Control Center, see screenshot.
Can you please set 'Type' to Stock in the Control Center and type the instrument name and hit Enter. Check if you receive data as well.
Subsequently perform the same steps when creating a chart.
