Hello,

Thanks for your patience with a newbie, I'm trying unsuccessfully to get the analyzer to yield any trades at all. I've gone through the videos and so on, but still no joy. I'm guessing it's a connection thing.

I've connected to the Forex Gain servers which I understand only allow 24 hours of back data, but when I change the time interval to something within the past day I still yield no trades when backtesting the sample strategies that come with NinjaTrader.

What also seems bizarre is I can open a chart that goes back say 30 days, so the historical data is sitting on my screen for th past 30 days, but then when I backtest I am unable to use this same data that is already downloaded. Is it possible to use downloaded chart data for backtesting?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Yes, backtest and chart data are the same data pool.

I suggest you check out a free data provider like OpenTick, www.opentick.com (http://www.opentick.com), get some reasonable dataset (e.g. on a stock like MSFT, 30 days back) and run a sample strategy on that data set.

Thanks for your help, I've got OpenTick running nicely.

After backtesting I add indicators to the Strategy Analyzer chart, but when I re-backtest those indicators disappear so I have to recreate them after every backtest. Right clicking on the chart brings up an option for "Templates - Save as Default" but this didn't help. Is there a way to have indicators appear on all Strategy Analyzer charts as a default, or do I have to keep adding indicators after every backtest?

Thanks,
Jeremy

You could add the indicator the the strategy itself. Please see the SampleMACrossOver strategy:
Add(SMA(Fast));
Add(SMA(Slow));

Right. OpenTick only provides data for equities, futures, and indexes. They do not have forex.

I could probably figure out a way to do this.

Please post the file format and a dozen lines of the data file, and I'll see if I can post a solution for you.

The file is big, it is not accepted by this post, I can sent you by email if you tell me your address, I only have NZDJPY right now.
