It looks to me that that the default Coffee futures (KC) definition in NT instrument list is incorrect (point value and tick size).

Can anybody confirm please?

Hello evlap,

The default information is correct. Point value is 37500.
https://www.theice.com/productguide/ProductDetails.shtml?specId=15

Minimum price movement is $18.75. So tick size is 0.0005.

18.75 / 37500 = 0.0005

Jason,

The caveat is that KC is quoted in cents, not dollars. NT expects point value in dollars. So we need to factor that in point value and tick size.

You can compare KC definition to the definition of SB which is defined correctly.

Was there a resolution to this - the correct tick size for KC accounting for cents vs dollars?

Hi powermoney,

Thank you for your post.

Based on the exchange settings the tick size and point values in NinjaTrader are correct.
http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/commodities/softs/coffee_contract_specifications.html

That link indicates price is quoted in dollars based on the point value, which means that what the tick size in NinjaTrader corresponds to the price values from the exchange.

I guess the reason for our confusion is in the way KC is quoted on ZenFire (cannot tell about other feeds). Coffee is quoted in dollars on CME web-site (e.g., 1.6355). But in cents on ZenFire (e.g., 163.55).

Hello evlap,

I see. Unfortunately, NinjaTrader acts like a radio receiver and displays the data that is provided.

What happens if you amend the point value and tick size? I suggest to use a tick size of 0.05 and a point value of 375. Does it list PnL as expected?

Still looks "wonky".

(Sorry... NT v7.19)

Xantech,

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that I follow.

Can you provide me with an example of a value you receive and a value you would expect?

Sure. I am using IB. Looking at coffee on NYBOT (KC) and using either of the two settings in this thread 37500/.0005 and 375/.05 I get 'junk charts', basically a couple of data points/bars and that's it. Nothing like I'd expect from my other chart experiences. Thus the "wonky" term. It seems that I have a similar issue with cotton (CT) using 50000/.0001 per ICE.

IB quotes in dollars e.g. KC 1.xxxx and CT 0.xxxx

Thanks for any insight.

Hello Xantech,

Could you please post a screenshot of the KC chart you display on your end.

What expiration month did you use? Does it make a difference if you select a different expiration month?

In addition, what version of NinjaTrader do you have installed? You can check this at Control Center-->Help-->About.

Xantech,

Please upgrade to the current version of the beta, 7.0.0.20, then test to see if you experience the same issue.

You may download the current version of NinjaTrader via this link: http://www.ninjatrader.com/webnew/download_trading_software.htm

I have upgaded since I posted the files, but the issue is the same. I had a similar issue with SB (the Instrument Manager default is incorrect) on the tick size and adjusting that solved it for SB. I haven't found a solution doing that on coffee, cotton (and one other, but don't remember which at the moment).

Xantech,

Please provide me with an image of the settings you are using for KC.

From the Control Center, click Tools > Instrument Manager.
In the Instrument Manager, select KC from the list on the right, then press Change.

I need an image of the Definition tab with all enabled exchanges showing.
I also need an image of the Misc tab where the Symbol Map section is showing.

To send a screenshot press Alt + PRINT SCREEN to take a screen shot of the selected window. Then go to Start--> Accessories--> Paint, and press CRTL + V to paste the image. Lastly, save as a jpeg file and attach that file to your next reply.

Hi Kyle,

Here is the picture you requested. The only exchange selected is NYBOT (not shown in the image sorry).

Hello Xantech,

Am I correct the global merge policy is set to MergeBackAdjusted or MergeNonBackAdjusted? You can check this at Control Center-->Tools-->Options-->Data-tab.

By default there is no 10-10 expiry defined for the KC. Can you please tell me what rollover date this expiry uses. Highlight the 'Contracts months' row in the Misc-tab of the KC. Click the '...' button that appears. Select the 10-10 expiry and tell me what rollover date is setup.

I noticed that the historical data for 9/7/2010 was the same in the 10-10 and 12-10 charts. Likely both charts load historical data from a previous expiry.

Can you please set the 'Merge policy' to DoNotMerge and subsequently create new charts for the KC 10-10 and KC 12-10. Does it display data as expected?

Hi Jason,
Sorry for the delay. The contracts for coffee are March, May, July, Sept, and Dec.

Dec date is 9/20/2010
Sept date is 7/20/2010
July date is 5/19/2010
May date is 3/19/2010
March date is 12/21/2009

The Merge Policy is set for DoNotMerge. I also "repaired" the DB. Still no useful chart.

Do you notice a difference in data now that 'Merge policy' is set to DoNotMerge?

Unfortunately our IB account is not authorized for the KC instrument, so I could not check it on my end.

Does the data in NinjaTrader resemble the data in TWS if you create a chart?

Hello Xantech,

Can you please restart NinjaTrader and create a new KC chart - does it make a difference?

Does the same chart display different data in TWS?
