I'm using Ninja to trade through a PATS broker. On the settings manager I have Host and Price Address filled in and the Host Port is 9990 and the Price Port is 2001.

My ISP provider prioritises certain protocols. They are: HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, Mail (POP3 & IMAP), SSH, Telnet

There are more details on this prioritisation here: http://www.telkomsa.net/products/adsl_telkom_internet.jsp

I find that now and then, Ninja disconnects. Could this be because because of the protocol prioritisation and would changing to a different host/price port help the problem.

Thanks.

That will not reduce the number of disconnects. Try having your ISP give you a static IP address, that can help.

How would a static IP address help?

I believe that my ISP gives me a new IP address each time I connect to them or every 24 hours if I remain connected for longer than 24 hours.

Pats servers establish a connection to your IP address. When dynamic IPs change, the connection must renegotiate. Sometimes during this process you can get the disconnections.

I can understand the problem if the IP address keeps on changing but I'm under the impression that my IP address remains static for 24 hours or until I reboot the router so effectively this means that the IP address remains static during any trading period of 7 hours.

On some days I experience frequent disconnects and on others none. Is the reason for the disconnect logged? If so where?

Regards,

Guy

No reason is logged. Then the disconnects are due to ISP related issues.
