View Full Version : Line Draw not Attaching to All Charts
DeskTroll

Loaded NT 7.8 last night and now any line/ray drawn won't attach to selected "All Charts". For ex: Drew a ray on 5 min ES chart then selected Attach to ES All Charts ...didn't draw on any other ES chart.

DeskTroll,
It seems to be working here. Perhaps you could try on fresh charts?

justme,
Please steps I can follow to reproduce. Thank you.
Also, check your Control Center logs for any errors.

Hi Josh,
It happened to me yesterday. I had two charts of the same instrument. Have horizontal lines drawn and locked on both. Then I changed the instrument on one chart temporarily but when reverted to the original instrument the lines were missing from it. The other chart did not lose it's lines during this process. The lines 'reappeared' after I had inserted a new horinzontal line. I don't remember if I used the refresh key before I setting the line.
Cheers,
SA

Tried a few times to no avail. Please post reproducible steps we can try on our end. Thanks guys.

I also have the same problem.
I just spend 20 minutes drawing a bunch of horizontal lines on a 240 minute bar chart. I changed all the properties for each line to apply to all charts, selected apply, and OK.
All were there on the 2450min chart. Change to 60 minute chart and they are gone. Changed back to 240 minute charge and they are gone.
Closed chart and opened new workspace and new charter and no lines.
I have had this happen on numerous occasions, not just this one time.
I do not believe with ever occurred in NTB7? I am using B9.
Cheers

Next time it happens, please do not close the chart. Save the workspace and send it our way. It would be helpful for us if you keep the workspace as simple as possible. Thank you.

This issue sounds eerily similar to paint issue I reported across multiple charts here:
http://www.ninjatrader-support2.com/vb/showthread.php?t=25603
Check out the video if you can and see if you guys can reproduce similarly.

Hi jdfagan,
This issue in this thread is about draw objects as opposed to executions. I think they are different issues.

I understand that Josh, but the common element being "draw" or "paint" of objects whether they originate from end user manual draw objects or from auto drawing by Ninja with regard to showing historical trades. I just wanted to point out what may be common between the 2 different cases in hopes to help developers with potentially more clues as to root of issue - as I was also getting the appearing/disappearing aspect of draw objects (mine being from strategy trades vs. manual user drawn objects like this thread).

jdfagan,
Thanks for the efforts. Strategy trade markers are not related to manually drawn objects or code generated draw objects so we should be fine in that regards as trade markers is already being addressed in the next version.

Hi Josh,
As you know, I have had this problem as well. In fact I just lost all my lines on a chart where almost all were applied to all charts. I have reloaded the chart several times but all lines are now gone irrespective of the time frame.
Where should I send my workspace for you to evaluate as you had requested earlier?

If you can attach the workspace here would be fine. Please inform me as to which charts should have which objects, etc. Thank you.

The chart is CL 03-10. It should have 2 black lines running in a diagonal from bottom to top right starting at 72ish to 78ish in price.
Numerous horizontal lines at 72, 72.50, 74.50, 75ish, 78ish, 80ish.

deurich,
When was the global draw object drawn? Was it a really old drawn object?
deurich

The majority were old but I believe I had a couple of new lines (i.e., within the latest B9 release)?
I did notice however, that the lines were sometimes disappearing after I put monthly pivots as an indicator. I had daily and weekly on there but after the monthly addition sometimes lines would disappear and I would have to close the chart and relaunch and my lines would come back - -but not this last time.

deurich,
Unfortunately I was unable to reproduce. We did isolate one case where global draw objects were disappearing in the next version. Hopefully it addresses your issues as well. Please try again in the next version.

Hi guys,
To chime in here also, I am experiencing the same problem, for whatever reason, randomly when I set a horizontal line to apply to all charts it will apply it to all charts at the time of setting it global but when one then moves to another instrument or changes the template, I think basically it's the function that reloads the global objects, it's losing some of the global lines on the charts. Not all, just some, can't for the life of me isolate what set of steps causes it to lose the line but it is definitely happening.
I have resorted to drawing boxes with my lines so that I know if a box is sitting on it's own that a line needs redrawing.

Follow up, I have found a step of steps that causes my horizontal lines to drop.
Perhaps you guys could try your side and see if it is doing the same, so we can attain whether it's something in my set up or it's a general issue. I can't believe that if it's as simple as this that allot of other folks wouldn't be reporting. So:
1. Create a Horizontal line.
2. Set the horizontal line to global.
3. Change instrument on chart to another instrument using top left drop down.
4. Go back to original instrument and check that horizontal line is still there. (it should be).
5. Now move the horizontal line to a different area of the chart on the Y axis.
6. Again change chart to a different instrument using top left drop down.
7. Go back to original instrument. (My global line has now vanished). Is yours still there?
I can make a video of it if you wish.
Cheers
Ross

Ross,
Thanks for the detailed steps. I walked through them on our current (not yet released) Beta 10 and the line stayed as expected. It is possible that something might have been fixed in this area with Beta 10 that we will release next week. Could you try these exact steps again with Beta 10. If you can still reproduce, the next step would be for us to get a workspace from you that contains a chart where you can reproduce this behaviour.

Seems to have been fixed in B10. All the lines that I have drawn and disappeared have all shown back up in B10. I now have a zillion lines everywhere but at least they are showing!

Thanks for reporting back. Glad it works. If you wish to quickly remove the line you can right click on the chart and select Remove Draw object and select all objects.
