Do I have to have active charts on the screen to get NT to record data from my brokers data feed connection? I'm using trading technologies.

Are you referring to historical data for charting? If yes, then you could use the Market Analyzer window. Insert a row for each instrument you want to record, then add an indicator column for a simple indicator like SMA on a 1 minute series if you want to record minute data and/or 500 tick bar if you want to recorder tick level data.

So if I have one column with a tick indicator and one column with a minute indicator, will it record both tick & minute bar data? Or can charting build minute bars from tick data?

I set that up and when I connect to my broker the application freezes. Windows still reports that it is running but I get no data updates and I can not activate any window except by using the windows toolbar. Even then, I can not select any controls on that window. I can't even disconnect from the broker. The whole app is non-responsive.

I would need to connect to your broker account in order to reproduce. Please PM your account credentials to "dierk AT ninjatrader DOT com".

I am using TT for a data source also. I am able to connect via the Market analyzer and do not seem (yet) to have the freeze problem. However by way of explanation, by setting a tic indicator and a minuite indicator are you saying that, once normalized, when I bring up my charts they will correctly backfill the data that was traded while my machine was turned off? Long question I know but ...
Thanks
Dean

No. It wil backfill data for the time period that you were actually connected.

One option for free historical data is to use www.opentick.com. Connect to TT first, then to OpenTick, NT will then use OpenTick for historical data.
