View Full Version : 1 chart updates the other doesn't

I have noticed on a few occasions now the following;
some figures come out which causes a flurry of trading activity.
My ES chart updates fine but my ESTX50 futures chart stops updating and has to have a reload of historical data ( after about 15 minutes) before it shows the bars. Before this time it still won't update even with a reload.
I have checked my cpu, etc at this time and it's running well under 100% and the fact that my es chart and other charts continue is puzzling me.
I have 9 charts open on 3 symbols btw.
Data provider is interactive brokers.
Any clues?
I attach a screen shot to show what I mean.
Edit - one other thing all the t & s go at the same price that the chart is stuck on ( all below the bid) - so maybe it is updating but it's not processing the correct data??

Hello Mindset,
What versions of NinjaTrader and TWS do you have installed? You can check at Help-->About (TradersWorkstation).
Do you receive price changes in TWS regarding the ESTX50 when the price remains the same in NinjaTrader?

898.4 TWS and NT 6.5 1000.14
yes I get price changes in TWS when ninja is stuck - see original pic

Hello Mindset,
Thank you for your reply.
No image was attached to your original post.
Can you re-add this image?

Hello Mindset,
So the issue only occurs during high volatility (news event), correct?
I tested the FESX 12-09, but so far all data is in synch.
Does it make a difference if NinjaTrader is requesting less data in total during such periods? Close some charts or remove some indicators and check if this will make any difference.

Yes it only happens in high traffic situations.
I have tried removing the T&S prior to big news eg non farm but it makes no difference.
I haven't yet tried removing charts.

Hi Mindset,
Thank you for your reply.
Please do try reducing the number of charts you have open and let us know if this makes any difference.

Ok - on the open (8am UK time) this morning - single chart single T&S - same thing happened. Prior to that point chart was updating fine.
I then closed my other 2 charts and reloaded a single new chart of esx - and same thing.
After about 3 minutes when I reloaded historical data - no change.
What I am not getting at all is that the Time and Sales are wrong and yet my TWS is showing perfectly correctly.

Ok
so the non farm payrolls caused mayhem - both es and esx charts stuck.
2 historical reloads data nothing - removed T&S and reloaded - fine.
Added T&S price went back to where it was before 13 points adrift and again all offers same price.
Removed T&S and reload data - no issues.
So the T&S is the problem area?

Does it make a difference if you test it in a different workspace with and without Time and Sales windows.
Unfortunately I am unable to reproduce so far. However, I did not have much time to test today.
I suggest to create an additional workspace with 2 charts and 2 Time and Sales windows and check if the issue persists in this workspace as well.

I will try that and also try it on my laptop and see if the issue is reproducible there as well.

The problem possibly is the T&S - today when figs came out both T&S stuck on a single price below the bid and just kept churning out that figure.
In the control center quote box however correct prices were rotating.
So I know the data is getting to NT - it seems that the charts foul up as well and I have to re boot to get rid of the problem.
Its becoming a serious issue for me now.
Next time I am going to try a new workspace with new T&S and then no T&S and see what happens.

Sounds good. Can you please check if you have no workspaces running in the background as well.
Restart NinjaTrader and go to File-->Workspaces and check what workspaces are listed below(!) 'Save Workspace As'. The workspace with the checkmark is the workspace opened on your monitor. Any additional workspaces listed, are opened in the background.
Select a workspace without a checkmark and subsequently go to File-->Workspaces-->Close Workspace. Repeat this process until only one workspace is opened.
Check if the issue persists when only one workspace is opened, with or without Time and Sales windows.

I only ever have 1 workspace open.

Ok, make sure you test with TWS version 898, which is currently the supported version with NinjaTrader.

brand new workspace today - with 3 charts and 2 t&S - all froze when figs came out.
When I deleted the T&S the charts still didn't update.
Tried previous figures on laptop and everything was fine - are you going to tell me to reinstall yet (another) new version of NT?

Hello Mindset,
Am I correct, the same setup worked fine on the laptop and the issue recurred on your desktop?
I mentioned in post #16 to ensure you have TWS version 898 installed, which is the current supported version with NinjaTrader. Not to install a new NinjaTrader version.

Correct - it worked fine on the laptop. Which is on v 898.9 of TWS
I hadn't realised that I was on 899 on my main computer so I have installed the prior 898 version and will test on next set of figs.

the older version of TWS and a new workspace seem to have sorted the problem.
Only 1 test on figs so far but it behaved perfectly well - thanks for the support.
