View Full Version : Chart Freeze

I am attaching a pic of a chart. It ran for approximately 40 minutes. The chart ceased upon displaying the incorrect time (notice 12:44, instead of 11:44). The chart has not refreshed or drawn a new bar in over 20 minutes (it is a 1 minute chart).
Is there any method for alleviating chart freeze ? (more ram, etc. ?)

Hello,
Thank you for your post.
What data feed provider are you connected to?
Does the data appear when you right click and select "Reload historical data?"

Thank you.
GAIN with NT servers. I'm using NT on a MacPro with Parallels.
I closed the window and opened another, and it shows the new data correctly. However, it disabled my Strategy from buying/selling further.
I will start a new window with the strategy again and try the technique you mentioned if/when it freezes again.

Is there any way to ensure that my strategy will continue to run, uninterrupted, until manually canceled ?

Your strategy should not be cancelled until you cancell it.
Please tell me what happens to canclell your strategy.

RJ,
When the chart froze (as shown earlier), buys and sells also were frozen. The strategy was still running in the strategies tab, but when I opened another chart, it did not appear to have bought and sold at the proper times. I removed the strategy--- possibly prematurely, and restarted it again in another chart.
Parallels is running Windows XP SP2 with less than 1 gig of RAM, so that may have caused the freeze. I have minimized other windows and other applications to maximize RAM resources for NT. I am also installing Windows XP on another drive, without Parallels, to use >1 gig of RAM.

RJ,
it happened again.
The chart was running a strategy.
I closed the chart, and the strategy was closed automatically when the chart was closed.
when I tried to reload historical data, NT prompted me and said it would need to close the strategy.
how do I avoid closing/reloading the strategy if the chart freezes ?
thanks.

You must leave your chart open. Strategies will stop if you close the chart. You can run the strategy from the strategies tab if you don't wish to use a chart.
Your issue is the 1 gig of RAM. This is not nearly enough as the minimum requirement is 2gigs.

RJ,
thank you.
I just ordered 4 gigs of ram for this Mac Pro.
Is NinjaTrader a 64 bit application ?
