View Full Version : NT Locked Up

It happened again. Fortunately, this is rare event but, left me with a substantial loss.

NT locked up, the interface became unresponsive and the open orders did not get executed, leaving me with an open position.

The GUI becomes unresponsive, it's border is displayed on the screen but, with semi-trasparent. You can see the previous screen through it.
Trying to close NT does not work from the close button or the Status Bar. The Task Manager reports it as running which is dissapointing as it precludes me from using a 3rd party monitoring/alerting software.

Please advise.

How much of your computer resources were being used when this happened?

Was your CPU maxed out?

How many workspaces did you have open?

My computer is a 2.8 GHz dual processor with 2 Gb Ram.
It's running Windows XP with all the updates.
The CPU runs at about 1%
3 workspaces opened

I don't believe this is a computer resources issue. It has happened before, under low stress as well.

Hello,

Try rebooting your PC and testing it without any 3rd party software running. Does the issue persist when you do this?

If not, I would suspect that it has something to do with the 3rd party software you are using.

No 3rd party software running other than tradestation
The problem happens randomly and every few weeks.
The fact that NT shows as running but the GUI is unresponsive, tells me that it's no 3rd party. This is a programming issue when NT falls into a certain internal cycle and it fails to refresh by issuing a DoEvents or a thread.sleep

Have you repaired or reinstalled your .Net 2.0?

Also you can try renaming your database as it may be getting to large.

I can look at the database.
In regards to .NET 2.0. Please tell me what to look for.

I would like to suggest adding a custom Ping Port or SNMP to NinjaTrader. Such a crutial piece of software could benefit from it.

Hello PHOLAN,

The recommended .NET Framework 2.0 version can be found at the link below.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en

I will forward your suggestion to our development team and ask them if they can add this to the list of future considerations for the software.

Thank you for taking time to give us your feedback.

I captured the issue as it happened again.
The problem occurs when NT is receiving an external AT command at the same time that it's doing certain internal operations.
In this particular case, I was opening an NT Strategy at the same time that it received an AT command.
It hung!
